Ligurian Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil from Liguria is one of the most popular oils that are appreciated not only in Italy but all over the world. This is due to the recovery of traditional products for the region and the cultivation of Taggiasca DOP olives. Liguria has boasted a unique product of its kind that is loved by chefs internationally.

Oil in Liguria: a two thousand years long tradition

The production of oil on Ligurian soil is a tradition that has its roots in the mists of time: the audacity of the area sometimes harsh, beaten by the winds, overlooking the blue Ligurian Sea - has never stopped the proud inhabitants of Liguria in the cultivation of olive trees since the very ancient times.

Ligurian extra virgin olive oil

Ligurian extra virgin olive oil is therefore one of the products of excellence in the region, protected by a DOP mark together with the typical Ligurian basil , the one with which the true Genoese pesto is created: in both cases it is not just simple fruits of the earth but real symbols of the Ligurian and Italian regional tradition.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced in Liguria has unique organoleptic characteristics of its kind: it shares with the other products of the Italian tradition the direct connection with the territory, which modulates taste and perfume, making it a product whose uniqueness is directly connected with the origin.

The taste is unique and mild: the Ligurian extra virgin olive oil is fruity, fragrant and has a very delicate pine nut aftertaste. Since these characteristics are unmistakable and strongly linked to the production area, the resulting oil is protected since 2001 by a special protection consortium, which defends its name and characteristics thanks to the Oil DOP Riviera Ligure brand.

Extra virgin olive oil in the diet

But then, if it is said that the oil has a high caloric value, that it is 99% fat and that it is easily absorbed by the body, would it be better not to take it if one is on diet? Quite the contrary: olive oil, especially Ligurian extra virgin olive oil, is so caloric, due to the high presence of oleic acid, it helps the body fight bad cholesterol and brings many other benefits. Furthermore, by limiting the amount as you would any other food, it is not even harmful to low-calorie diets.
